Tolerance, Transparency, Tradition, Trust: OSCE photo contest 2010

The photo contest, held ahead of the OSCE High-level Conference on Tolerance and Non-Discrimination in Astana, was initiated and financed by Kazakhstan's 2010 OSCE Chairmanship.

The winners of the OSCE 2010 photo contest on tolerance were announced on 29 June 2010 at an award ceremony on the margins of the OSCE High-level Conference on Tolerance and Non-Discrimination in Astana. 

The winners are:

  • Eric Gourlan, a photographer residing in the Netherlands with many years of experience in Central Asian region (Tolerance alive)
  • Rudi Dawia Kaufman, a graduate student of photography school in Wuerzburg, Germany (Black and white relationship)
  • Andrey Liankevich, a photographer from Belarus (He has a female name)
  • Vitaliy Ovsyannikov from Kharkiv, Ukraine (Sincere emotions)
  • Ilya Rozenbaum from Belgium (Hallelujah)

The finalists are:

  • Simret Cheema-Innis from the United Kingdom (Generation)
  • Simon Clark from the United Kingdom (The Imam and the Pastor)
  • Sasha Colic from Serbia (Inner City)
  • Maxim Doronin from Russia (Let's get married! )
  • Stefan Fersterer from Austria ((Un)covered)
  • Vadim Mudarisov from Kazakhstan (As you can remember, comrade...)
  • Enis Muslimovic from Bosnia and Herzegovina (Hard life and Leon)
  • Laili Palvonova from Tajikistan (Tolerance starts young and friendship can last a lifetime)
  • Wolfram Pertl from Austria (Deep thoughts)
  • Benjamin Stoess from Germany (City outskirts 08)
  • Emina Tepic from Bosnia and Herzegovina (Equality)
  • Stephan Weixler from Austria (Diversity of thoughts)

The winners received a trip to Astana, where they attended the award ceremony.

More than 100 photographers from 35 OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation submitted around 300 pictures for the contest, initiated and financed by the Kazakhstan's OSCE Chairmanship.

The contest winners and finalists, whose works are on show at the Conference, were selected in mid-May by an international jury consisting of representatives of the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the OSCE, the OSCE Secretariat, Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Office of the High Commissioner on National Minorities, as well as a professional news photographer.
