OSCE Chairman meets Norwegian Foreign Minister, discusses co-operation with Council of Europe
SOFIA 13 October 2004
SOFIA, 13 October 2004 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy, today met the Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen.
They discussed a wide range of issues including co-operation between the OSCE and the Council of Europe.
"I welcome the co-operation between the two Organizations both at headquarters and in the field," said Minister Passy. "There is scope for enhanced interaction to ensure that the OSCE and the Council of Europe avoid unnecessary duplication and fully meet the expectations of participating and member States. We will establish a mechanism for reviewing the way we interact. I appreciate very much the ideas of my Norwegian colleague to this effect."
The ministers agreed that these issues should also be on the agenda of the 6 and 7 December 2004 OSCE Ministerial Council in Sofia and of the May 2005 Council of Europe Summit in Warsaw.
