Strengthening co-operation between OSCE and SEECP

BUCHAREST, 31 July 2001 (OSCE) - The Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana, met yesterday in Bucharest Mr. Paskal Milo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania, who is currently holding the Chairmanship of the South-East European Co-operation Process (SEECP).
The overall security situation in south-eastern Europe was examined during the discussion. The two high officials endeavored to identify means through which both the OSCE and the SEECP could render assistance in achieving a peaceful settlement to the situation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
The ministers also addressed a number of issues relevant for south-eastern Europe, such as fighting organized crime, trafficking and corruption, agreeing to strengthen the co-operation between OSCE and SEECP in this respect.
Issues related to the functioning of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe, the preparations for the Stability Pact Regional Conference to be held in Bucharest this October as well as for the OSCE Ministerial Council scheduled for December 2001 were also addressed.
