New head appointed for the OSCE Assistance Group to Chechnya

COPENHAGEN, 3 April 1997 - The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Danish Foreign Minister Niels Helveg Petersen regretfully accepted the resignation of Ambassador Tim Guldiman as head of the OSCE Assistance Group to Chechnya.
During his term of office, which started in January 1996, Ambassador Guldimann played a major role in the peace process and in the holding of democratic elections in the Republic.
Ambassador Guldimann will be leaving Grozny at the end of April.
The Chairman-in-Office has appointed Ambassador Rudolf Thorning-Petersen, whose career included assignments as Danish Ambassador in Beijing, Moscow and London, as new head of the OSCE Assistance Group.
