Chairman-in-Office condemns attack on Kosovo Serb leader
OSLO 2 November 1999
OSLO, 2 November 1999 - The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Foreign Minister Knut Vollebæk of Norway, is dismayed to hear of the attack on Momcilo Trajkovic in Pristina and condemns it outright. This attack on a senior leader of the Serbian community is an attack on all those who seek peaceful co-existence and reconciliation in Kosovo.
Foreign Minister Vollebæk personally has met with Mr. Trajkovic, a member of the Kosovo Transitional Council, several times on visits to Kosovo. He highly appreciates the contribution of Mr. Trajkovic towards increased tolerance and reduced ethnic hatred in Kosovo.
Mr. Trajkovic has displayed considerable moral courage in his commitment to dialogue with other communities in the province. He has stood in opposition to all extreme political forces before and since the recent conflict.
The Chairman-in-Office calls upon the Kosovo Albanian leadership to pronounce clear condemnation of this act and contribute to decisive, visible action to put an end to violence and harassment against non-Albanian communities in Kosovo.
