Chairman-in-Office condemns killing of UNMIK staff in Kosovo
12 November 1999
OSLO, 12 Oslo 1999 - The Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, Norwegian Foreign Minister Knut Vollebæk, condemns the cold-blooded murder of an United Nations staff member in Pristina last night. According to a police report, a crowd of ethnic Albanians assaulted and took him away where he was shot dead.
"To have singled out an individual for death apparently due to the language he spoke is intolerable. This was a cowardly and senseless act of violence, which has no place in the civil society we in UNMIK are working to build," Mr. Vollebæk said.
Mr. Vollebæk urged all citizens of Kosovo to refrain from violence and take responsibility for the healing of their land. He called on political leaders to condemn revenge and devote all their efforts to reconciliation for the sake of Kosovo's future.
