OSCE Chairman denounces "parliamentary elections" in Abkhazia
MADRID 7 March 2007
MADRID, 7 March 2007 - The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, has denounced the "parliamentary elections" held on 4 March by the Abkhaz leadership on the territory under its control.
"I consider these "parliamentary elections" to be illegitimate and not supportive of the UN-led-negotiation process aimed at a comprehensive and lasting peaceful settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict," said Minister Moratinos.
The Chairman-in-Office added that organizing such elections was not constructive and could only increase tension.
