OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Germany’s Foreign Minister Steinmeier welcomes resumption of negotiations on the Transdniestria conflict
BERLIN, 2 June 2016 - OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier today welcomed the resumption of negotiations on the Transdniestria conflict from 2 to 3 June 2016 in the guesthouse of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, Villa Borsig, in Berlin:
“The German Chairmanship is resolved to focus efforts on unsettled conflicts in the OSCE area including also and in particular on Transdniestria. It is therefore an important milestone that the official 5+2 talks on a settlement of the Transdniestria conflict will resume today, after a two-year break.
Our efforts are centered on the attempt to develop a shared notion for a status for Transdniestria – within the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. Only if the sides agree on joint solutions in practical matters, trust can be rebuilt and a positive momentum for the settlement of the conflict can gather. Both sides now need to resolutely continue to pursue this goal.
It is good news that all those involved have now expressed their readiness to resume the talks. This is a renewal of their commitment to the 5+2 Format to be the agreed path for a sustainable and fair solution to the conflict.”
