CHISINAU, 21 May 2014 – The Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transdniestrian Settlement Process Ambassador Radojko Bogojević completed today his visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol.
In Tiraspol on 20 May, he met with the Transdniestrian Chief Negotiator Nina Shtanski. In Chisinau today, he met with the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Chief Negotiator Eugen Carpov.
“The key purpose of my visit to the region was to discuss the priorities of the sides as we approach the next round of Transdniestrian settlement talks that will take place in Vienna on 5-6 June,” Bogojević said.
This will be the second round of the talks in the 5+2 format held this year, he added. The round was initially scheduled for 10-11 April, but was postponed.
The 5+2 talks bring together representatives of the sides, as well as of the mediators and observers – Moldova, Transdniestria, the OSCE, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, the US and the EU.
“I trust that all the participants of the upcoming talks in Vienna will show a constructive approach on conflict settlement,” Bogojević said. “I am convinced that the holding of these talks will send a positive signal and contribute to decreasing tensions in the region.”
Bogojević also discussed with his interlocutors the Conference on Confidence Building Measures in the Transdniestrian Settlement Conflict that will take place on 10-12 June in Munich, Germany. The Conference is organized by the OSCE Mission to Moldova together with the German Government.
