Condemning Stockholm attack, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and OSCE Secretary General say indiscriminate acts of violence can never be justified

VIENNA, 7 April 2017 – Indiscriminate acts of violence can and will never be justified or tolerated, said OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz and OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier today as they condemned the terrorist attack in Stockholm, offered their condolences to the families of victims and wished the injured a quick recovery.

“These acts of violence are tragic at any time, but they are absolutely disgraceful when they target innocent people. I offer my sincere condolences to the families of victims and the injured as they deal with this tragedy,” said Kurz.

“Terrorism, regardless of its motivations, impacts people from all backgrounds and constitutes a serious threat to international security. We must increase international co-operation to counter all forms of violent extremism,” he added.

OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said: “Terrorism indiscriminately claims victims and cannot be associated with any race, religion or culture. Together with all OSCE participating States, Partners for Co-operation and other institutional partners, we intend to step up our efforts to co-operate in preventing acts of extremist violence in all of its forms.”
