OSCE Centre in Bishkek supports gender approach to policing in Kyrgyzstan
Promoting a gender-sensitive approach in Kyrgyzstan’s police system was the focus of a three-day seminar supported by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and attended by senior officials from the Interior Ministry and other police structures of Kyrgyzstan.
The results of a gender analysis of the Interior Ministry’s personnel policy, carried out by a local think tank, the Public Association Democratic Processes Research Centre were presented at the seminar, which concluded on 30 January.
Lilian Darii, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, noted that the initiative was a good example of the joint efforts of the Interior Ministry, the OSCE and the non-governmental sector to mainstream a gender-sensitive approach in policing. Interior Minister of Kyrgyzstan Zarylbek Rysaliev said that the principles of openness and equal opportunities are key to successful reform of the police system.
