OSCE Centre to hold workshop for women entrepreneurs in rural Kyrgyzstan
BISHKEK 24 March 2004
BISHKEK, 24 March 2004 - A workshop that is aimed at encouraging women to start small businesses in rural areas will open tomorrow in Kyrgyzstan. The two-day event, organised by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, will take place in the town of Tokmok and is expected to be attended by more than 50 participants from different rural areas of this Central Asian State.
The workshop is designed to promote and foster entrepreneurship by women and assist the process of economic revitalization and job creation in the rural regions.
Topics to be covered will include the introduction of the basic elements of entrepreneurial thinking, key theoretical knowledge and practical skills on business-plan development. Experts will provide information on taxation, licensing, registration, and inspections regulations in Kyrgyzstan.
"The support of women entrepreneurs is setting an important accent of real change in Tokmok region," said Ambassador Markus Muller, the Head of the OSCE Centre. "Each small enterprise can show that it is possible to overcome the economic inertia, which has paralysed the region over the last decade."
This course, the third in a series of similar workshops, will provide information on the availability of credit resources from both international and Kyrgyz institutions engaged in micro-finance activities for entrepreneurs, particularly in the regions, as well as on accessible credits, mechanisms to distribute and collateralize loans, and business support.
Workshop participants will include existing and potential women entrepreneurs, representatives from the local administration, the banking sector and international organizations.
