OSCE Centre presents vehicles, office and computer equipment to Kyrgyz Interior Ministry
BISHKEK, 6 July, 2009 - The OSCE Centre in Bishkek handed over a donation of communication supplies as well as computer and communication equipment for the establishment of a Virtual Private Network for the Interior Ministry's main headquarters today. This assistance will help the Interior Ministry improve its communication with regional police headquarters, thereby strengthening its intelligence and managerial capacities.
Additionally, the OSCE Centre donated ten vehicles, and office and computer equipment to the Ministry of Interior, district, town and village police units across the country to help increase their efficiency. This donation was part of the Centre's Police Reform Programme, which aims to strengthen the institutional, operational and educational capacities of the Kyrgyz police and improve the social partnership between the community and police.
"This presentation, I think, reminds us all that the more remote areas of the country are not overlooked or ignored in the overall strategy of the Interior Ministry to strengthen the social partnership between the police and citizens. I hope this assistance will facilitate the work of police in the regions and the Ministry's operational and managerial capacity," said Ambassador Andrew Tesoriere, Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek.
"The OSCE Centre's methodical and technical assistance helps the Kyrgyz police become a social partner for civil society. The long-term implementation of the OSCE Police Reform Programme will help develop and transform the Kyrgyz police," said Interior Minister Moldomusa Kongantiev.
