OSCE supports international scientific conference on power engineering held in southern Kyrgyzstan
OSH, Kyrgyzstan, 10 October 2008 - Challenges and solutions in the field of energy and power engineering are on the agenda of an international conference held by the OSCE field office and the Kyrgyz-Uzbek University in Osh today.
More than 200 participants from Central Asian states, Russia and China will discuss energy security and sustainable development, electric power, alternative energy source technologies, non-traditional sources of energy and other economic issues relating to the energy sector and engineering management.
"This conference contributes to our government's efforts to improve the power engineering situation in Kyrgyzstan. We hope that participants will offer recommendations on more effective resource management and outline other recent achievements in the field," said, Anvarjan Ismanjanov, the Rector of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek University.
Hugo Karlsson, the Head of OSCE field office in Osh, added: "Given the challenges now in the energy sector both globally and locally, this event is timely and important. The conference is expected to produce valuable recommendations from the scientific community for governments in the region."
