OSCE Centre supports anti-corruption training course in Kyrgyzstan
ISSYK-KUL, Kyrgyzstan, 7 November 2005 - More than 40 participants representing central and local authorities, civil society and businessmen are taking part in a five-day training course on anti-corruption education that began today in Issyk-Kul in the north part of Kyrgyzstan.
The event, supported by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, the Lithuanian Special Investigation Agency and the Kyrgyz Secretariat of the Consultative Council on Good Governance, will also discuss corruption prevention measures and help build awareness among the general public and media.
"Corruption in Kyrgyzstan needs to be addressed systematically," said Asim Acikel, Economic and Environmental Officer at the OSCE Centre. "This training course addresses the main problems and will help identify effective mechanisms to fight against corruption on local levels."
The training is being conducted by experts of the Lithuanian Special Investigation Agency and Kyrgyz specialists in the field.
"This course will help raise awareness of the local authorities and general public on basic methods to fight corruption," added Kuban Omuraliev, Head of the Secretariat of Consultative Council on Good Governance. "Participants will be able to share their knowledge in other regions of Kyrgyzstan."
