OSCE member states conduct third experts meeting on counter terrorism in Kyrgyzstan
ISSYK-KUL, 11 September 2014 - The third meeting of experts from the Anti-Terrorism Centres ofthe OSCE member states Kyrgyzstan, Russia Federation, Belarus, Lithuania, Mongolia, United States of America, Pakistan, Serbia, Spain and Turkey was held on 9to 10 September, 2014 in Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting was organized jointly by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek and the Anti-Terrorism Centre of the State Committee on National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, in collaboration with the Action Against Terrorism Unit fromthe Transnational Threats Department of the OSCE Secretariat.
It brought together 50 experts from anti-terrorism centres and respective official agencies of OSCE participating States, Partners for Co-operation and other international entities, as well as local government and non-government agencies.
The objective of the meeting was to create the necessary conditions for the establishment and development of international cooperation to strengthen the role of anti-terrorism centres, as well as furthering the exchange of experience and best practice among experts in the field of counter terrorism.
“Many of us read media reports, day after day, about the scourge of terrorism. Despite the measures taken by the international community, the threat of terrorism does not weaken., said Maciej Dachowski, Head of the Politico-Military Dimension at the OSCE Center in Bishkek. “Today's meeting is just one of the important activities carried out by the Centre as part of the fight against terrorism. This meeting will serve as a platform for further expansion of cooperation between anti-terrorist agents of the OSCE participating States”.
