OSCE supports senior Kyrgyz officials visit to international forum on anti-corruption
OSCE Centre in Bishkek supported participation of eight representatives from the Economy Ministry of Kyrgyzstan, including Minister, at the 16th Anti-Corruption network steering group meeting in Paris, France on 16 to 18 April 2014.
The meeting was organised in the framework of the Anti-Corruption Network (ACN) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia established under the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Working Group on Bribery. The ACN supports countries in their fight against corruption by providing a forum for promotion of anti-corruption activities, exchange of information, elaboration of best practices and donor co-ordination.
During the sessions, participants discussed implementation of the Istanbul anti-corruption action plan and reviewed monitoring and progress reports by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. They also discussed a draft of the thematic study on responsibility of legal persons for corruption and exchanged best practices on countering corruption among the ACN law-enforcement practitioners.
“This year’s meeting in Paris significantly contributes to the co-ordination of international anti-corruption efforts”, YuliaMinaeva, Senior Economic and Environmental Officer of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek said. “I believe that participants from the Economy Ministry had a chance to learn more about their foreign colleagues’ experiences and best practices, and will use that knowledge to adjust and improve normative and practical aspects of anti-corruption work in Kyrgyzstan.”
The OSCE Centre’s support is part of its efforts to promote a broad range of anti-corruption initiatives in the country. It follows up OSCE-organised study visits of Kyrgyz officials to Latvia earlier and South Korea earlier this year. In March 2014, under its anti-corruption initiatives, the OSCE Centre in Bishkek signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kyrgyz government to launch a major regulatory reform aimed at streamlining the legal framework regulating private economic activity.
