OSCE Mission to BiH selects 10 winning visions for better schools
SARAJEVO 1 April 2003
SARAJEVO, 1 April 2003 - Ten winning projects have been selected from over 250 entries to the Student Competition of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
The projects describe the students' visions of better schools and are a part of the OSCE Mission's efforts to promote education reforms in BiH. The mission is particularly pleased with the enthusiasm and creativity demonstrated by the thousands of students who are behind the projects. The OSCE will now work together with the ten winning groups to realise their visions to improve education in their schools and financially support implementation of their projects.
The 250 entries came in a wide variety of formats. Most schools presented their projects on posters, but we also saw comic books, videos, models, flags, project description papers, audio tapes, floppy discs and CDs. A jury of 18 teachers, pedagogues, school directors and NGO activists including the famous actor and children programme author "Troko", selected the winning projects.
The winners are:
O.S. "Gracanica" - Bugojno: The students suggest forming a student council that would enable students to make decisions about their school. The students would present their ideas to teachers and parents. Their motto is: "We have the right to make decisions too."
O.S. "Mula Mustafe Beseskije" - Donje Moste - Visoko: The students suggest an awareness raising program called "Learning for a Better Life". The project calls for teachers to modernise their teaching techniques. They provided a script for a TV spot.
O.S. "Camil Sijaric" - Sarajevo: The students propose a number of workshops for different school subjects and want to establish interactive relationships with their teachers in all classes.
O.S. "Sladna" - Sladna: The students submitted a comic that illustrates a current situation in need of improvement. They want to have their teachers trained in modern teaching methods.
