OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina launches cantonal administration project in Tuzla
TUZLA 20 February 2002
TUZLA, 20 February 2002 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina will formally sign a memorandum of understanding with the Tuzla Canton to commence implementation of the OSCE's Canton Administration Project (CAP).
The Tuzla Canton is the fourth in the country to sign the memorandum of understanding. The other cantons are Posavina, Zenica-Doboj and Middle Bosnia. The Project is designed to increase the efficacy, transparency and accountability of canton administration by targeting administrative and legislative structures alike.
"The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina is pleased to provide support to proactive canton governments in their efforts to reform and CAP is an element of that support", said Ambassador Robert Beecroft, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. "This is a key component of the OSCE efforts to promote good governance and increase the accountability of government officials to the citizens of this canton."
The OSCE Mission will inaugurate the project in Tuzla Canton with the launch of organizational management activities, i.e. restructuring of the cantonal Ministry of Justice and Administration, as an initial project, which would start in beginning of March. Other areas that will be targeted by the project include human resource management, administrative culture and financial management.
