Radio FERN says "Goodbye" to listeners in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 11 April 2001
SARAJEVO, 11 April 2001 - After almost five years of serving the public of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Radio FERN will say "goodbye" to its listeners later this week.
Radio FERN will bid a final farewell to its listeners at 20:00 hrs on 12 April 2001 by ceasing to broadcast and ending its successful transition from an elections-based radio station in 1996 to a popular and trusted countrywide news and information radio network in 2001.
"Radio FERN was a success story no one ever expected - an award-winning source of news, information, sports, and cultural programs that reached and brought together listeners from all over the country," said Shawn Dearn, Radio FERN General Manager.
Following its final broadcast day, Radio FERN will be integrated into the radio service of Public Broadcast Service (PBS) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with elements of Radio Bosnia and Herzegovina and Radio RTRS. The new radio service will operate under the name of Bosnia and Herzegovina Radio 1 and will introduce a new programme schedule. Radio 1 will be broadcast on FERN frequencies once it goes on air, now tentatively scheduled for May 2001.
"This is an exciting transition which will benefit the public in the long-term" notes Dearn, stressing, "Radio FERN's integration into Radio 1 brings PBS radio into the digital age, gives PBS radio the means to reach the entire country immediately, and brings some of BiH's best radio talent to PBS radio."
The staff and management of Radio FERN are grateful to their many dedicated listeners who have supported and contributed to the station's success and wish them well in the future.
