OSCE Head of Mission visits Prozor/Rama and Bugojno, Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 26 March 2001
SARAJEVO, 26 March 2001 - Ambassador Robert L. Barry, Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, accompanied by his wife and Fra Marko Orsolic, visited Rama monastery and Bugojno yesterday, Sunday, 25 March.
The Barrys attended mass at the monastery and met with the guardian of the Scit (Rama) monastery, Fra Mato Topic, and members of the local community. Ambassador Barry expressed his support for the project of creating an international centre for peace on the grounds of the monastery, and said he would approach donors about the possibility of funding a water supply project in the surrounding area.
In Bugojno, the Barrys met with a multi-ethnic group of activists working for return and reconciliation in the Bugojno area. They noted the greatly improved return figures and urged that further progress be made toward a unified education curriculum in order to make return more sustainable.
"I am very encouraged by what I have seen in Rama and Bugojno," said Barry during the visit. "In Rama, the Franciscan community is working with Bosniaks and Croats alike to create an atmosphere of mutual understanding and reconciliation. In Bugojno, grass roots efforts are creating a climate for sustainable return."
