Three councillors removed from office in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 8 March 2001
SARAJEVO, 8 March 2001 - The mandates of three Municipal Assembly Councillors have been removed for violations of Article 7.16 of the Provisional Election Commission Rules and Regulations governing the April 2000 municipal elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This action follows the decision of the Provisional Election Commission Chairman, Ambassador Robert Barry, who is also Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mirjana Sarcevic (SDS), councillor in the Municipal Assembly Doboj, and Luka Rajak (SNSD), councillor in the Municipal Assembly Vlasenica, have both had their mandates removed because of their failure to vacate the property they illegally occupied within the deadline stipulated in an administrative decision. The mandates will be allocated to the next candidates on their parties' lists for these respective municipalities.
Juro Zecevic (HDZ), councillor in the Municipal Council Odzak is removed from office under Article 115 - persons previously removed. Mr. Zecevic was struck from the candidates list by the Elections Appeals Sub-Commission prior to the November elections for personal obstruction to the election process. Under Article 115, no person is allowed to hold any office if already removed by the Election Appeals Sub-Commission. Since Mr. Zecevic continued to hold a position of councillor in Odzak, his mandate is taken away.
