Budget and finance training for Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJEVO, 27 February 2001 - The OSCE Municipal Infrastructure Finance and Implementation (MIFI) programme experts will conduct finance and budget training for the municipal administration of Srebrenica, 27-28 February.
The training will assist office holders in preparation of the 2001 budget. Topics addressed include overview of the current problems with budget and accounting procedures; recommendations for direct steps to address these problems; and the introduction of expenditure controls.
"Following the successful implementation of election results in Srebrenica OSCE Democratization Department will provide assistance to the Municipal Government," said OSCE Head of Mission Robert L. Barry. "We expect the newly elected officials to undertake their role responsibly, working for the betterment of all citizens. OSCE will provide assistance to that end."
The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), the OSCE Mission activities are to promote Democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society, foster the development of professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists, monitor and advance the Human Rights situation, supervise the conduct of Elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures.
The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
