Candidate lists open to public scrutiny in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 26 September 2000
SARAJEVO, 26 September 2000 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina would like to announce that the lists of candidates put forward by political parties and coalitions for compensatory mandates have been submitted to the OSCE and are available to the public. A total of 29 parties and one coalition submitted lists for elections in the RS National Assembly, the House of Representatives of the Federation, and the House of Representatives of BiH.
According to Provisional Elections Commission rules, approximately 75 per cent of elected candidates are elected to these parliamentary institutions from electoral districts called multi-member constituencies. The remaining 25 per cent are elected through the compensatory mandate system. This system is designed to ensure that the total number of seats allocated to political parties or coalitions reflects the true proportion of votes the parties or coalitions received.
The lists are available in the OSCE Press Offices upon request. Lists are also made available on the Internet at http://www.oscebih.org
For more information please call Luke Zahner, spokesperson, OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, tel.: 033/292-222 or 066/144-311.
