SARAJEVO, 18 July 2000 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted a two-day seminar on Parliamentary Reform, Gender Equality Machinery, Parliamentary Committees and Media for member of parliaments of the State and Entity Parliaments and members of the Parliamentary Gender Equality Committees in BiH.
"After the tremendous success of women candidates in the Municipal Elections of April 2000 which was made possible by the Women Can Do It trainings, the OSCE continues its support for women politicians," says Sverre Johan Kvale, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH. "We are convinced that women politicians are the ideal candidates to break conservative male power cliques apart, to emphasize issues of common concern and to co-operate across party lines."
In workshop sessions the participants analyzed the Gender Equality Models of Slovenia and Italy, discussed the Parliamentary reform from a gender perspective, and started to further develop the Gender Equality Parliamentary Committees recently established in BiH. This seminar also provided the participants with an opportunity to profit from the experiences of Croatian women member of parliaments and improve their media and presentation skills.
