Bosnian NGOs to develop a common strategy for upcoming elections

SARAJEVO, 27 June 2000 - In order to assist the development of a common NGO strategy in the pre-election period and its related activities, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina is organizing a conference on the "Role of the NGOs in the Pre-Election and Election Activities" for 67 local NGOs from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The objective of this event is the development of a common strategy for NGOs concerning national and local campaigns, pre-registration and data examination in the voter registers, voter's motivation, information and education and monitoring of the public campaign.
The conference will take place in Trebinje, July 5.
The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace, the OSCE Mission activities are to promote Democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society, foster the development of Professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists, monitor and advance the Human Rights situation, supervise the conduct of Elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures. The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
