Saudi Arabia donates to OSCE fund for elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina
VIENNA 15 July 1997
VIENNA, 15 July 1997 - The OSCE has received a generous pledge of $500,000 from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a contribution toward the OSCE fund for the municipal elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The OSCE is grateful for this exceptional support from Saudi Arabia, a country having no formal association with the Organization.
The OSCE established a Fund for Voluntary Contributions on Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina early this year to secure the estimated $30 million needed for the elections. The OSCE Chairman-in-Office appointed former Italian Foreign Minister Susanna Agnelli in April to help secure committments from donors. Contributions thus far total about $24 million, which is $6 million short of the projected target.
