OSCE reminds out-of-country voters about their voting options in Bosnia and Herzegovina
SARAJEVO 6 April 2000
SARAJEVO, 6 April 2000 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina reminds all out-of-country voters present in the country on election day that they have the right to cast a ballot in person at an absentee polling station, unless they have already cast a vote by-mail.
This opportunity also applies to out-of-country voters who did not confirm their Out-of-Country Voter Registration in 1999.
Persons falling under this category are required to cast their votes by tendered ballot at an Absentee Polling Station either in the municipality they are eligible for, or in any other municipality. The location of Absentee Polling Stations in each municipality authorized to issue tendered ballots has been published by the Municipal Election Commissions.
These voters need to produce their identification card or other acceptable proof of identity as described in the Rules and Regulations of the Provisional Election Commission. To simplify the processing in the polling station, they also should take their Out-of-Country registration receipt with them.
After the voting process, the personal data of the voter will be recorded on an envelope containing the tendered ballot. The voter's personal data will be checked against the final voter register. In case the voter can be found on the final voter register, his or her ballot will be counted in the Sarajevo Counting Center.
The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace, the OSCE activities are to promote democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society; foster the development of professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists; monitor and advance the human rights situation; supervise the conduct of elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures.
The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
