Preliminary results released in Bosnia and Herzegovina elections
SARAJEVO 11 April 2000
SARAJEVO, 11 April 2000 - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina today released preliminary municipal election results for 33 additional municipalities. These municipalities include 20 in the Federation and 13 in Republika Srpska.
These are unaudited and incomplete results, and reflect only regular ballots counted at individual polling stations. These results do not include out-of-country ballots, absentee ballots, and tendered ballots. For some municipalities, therefore - and particularly those with large out-of-country or absentee voting populations - there exists the possibility that the results will swing significantly between the preliminary results and the final results. Final results will be made available only after they have been certified by the Provisional Election Commission.
Full preliminary results for each municipality are available on the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina website at http://www.oscebih.org. Media may also obtain copies at the Counting Centre in Sarajevo.
The OSCE established its present Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 December 1995. In accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace, the OSCE activities are to promote democratization and the building of a vibrant civil society; foster the development of professional journalism and monitor the rights of journalists; monitor and advance the human rights situation; supervise the conduct of elections, and encourage Regional Stabilization through arms control and confidence and security-building measures.
The OSCE Mission continues to work closely with other international organizations and local institutions to implement the Dayton Peace Accords.
