OSCE trains civil society activists on data journalism
On 20 June 2013, civil society activists completed a four-day training course on data journal-ism and information activism in Sarajevo. The training was organized by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina in partnership with Mediacentar Sarajevo with a specific focus on promoting gender equality in the country via online and social media.
The participants learned about data journalism and evidence-based advocacy and techniques to develop web-based applications, mapping tools and info-graphics. During the training, the civil society activists selected and analysed topics including budget allocation for NGOs, men and women in parliaments in BiH, processing domestic violence cases and maternity rights.
The participants will now continue to develop their own articles and info-graphics on these areas using accessible data to highlight and publicly present various forms of gender inequality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the second half of the year, the Mission will select the top stories and further promote them as best practices and models.
