OSCE Centre helps organize forum in Astana to discuss extremism

ALMATY, 13 December 2004 - In order to broaden the discussion on extremism in Kazakhstan, the OSCE Centre in Almaty will organize a public forum on the theme on 15 December in Astana.
The event, jointly organized with the Presidential Human Rights Commission and the European Commission Delegation in Kazakhstan, will help find a balance between security initiatives and insuring basic freedoms while combating extremism. It will also review the draft laws on extremism currently under consideration in the Kazakhstani Parliament.
The forum will be attended by government representatives, non-governmental organizations, academics, experts of OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the diplomatic community and international organizations.
Media representatives are invited to attend the opening at 10.00 on 15 December in the UN Conference Hall, 38 Bukei-khan, Astana.
