OSCE Centre to hold meeting on draft law on combating money-laundering and financing of terrorism

ALMATY, 13 March 2006 - The OSCE Centre in Almaty will organize a roundtable discussion of the Kazakh draft law on combating money-laundering and the financing of terrorism in Astana on 16 March.
The event, co-organized with the Majilis (lower chamber of parliament) and the General Prosecutor's Office, which developed the draft law, will bring together representatives of the Government, the business community, non-governmental and international organizations and the media.
The OSCE's Warsaw-based Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights has done an assessment of the draft law, which included a legal expertise from the point of view of the rule of law and relevant international experience, as well as OSCE commitments.
In February and March, the OSCE Centre and the Forum of entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan organized discussions of the draft law for business communities of different regions of the country. The results of these discussions will be presented at the Astana meeting.
Media representatives are invited to the opening of the event at 9.30 on 16 March, at the Yesil Hotel, Ulitsa Mira, 8, Astana.
