Kazakhstani prosecutors discuss fighting corruption at OSCE seminar
ALMATY, 27 May 2005 - District prosecutors from Kazakhstan's various regions today discussed measures against corruption at a seminar organized by the OSCE Centre in Almaty and the Institute of Prosecutors' Training.
"This training day provided a good opportunity for the prosecutors to get acquainted with the latest international instruments and best practices in combating corruption," said Ambassador Ivar Vikki, Head of the OSCE Centre in Almaty.
The event was organized within the framework of the OSCE Centre's programme on combating and prevention of corruption to support the Kazakhstani action plan for a national anti-corruption strategy (2006-2010).
Experts from Kazakhstan's Agency on the Fight against Corruption and Economic Crime and the General Prosecutor's Office updated the participants on the government's current anti-corruption initiatives, as well as practical measures to prevent and combat corruption.
An expert from the Global Programme against Corruption of the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) presented relevant international and regional treaties, agreements and resolutions, as well as other instruments and non-binding standards. A member of the Latvian Bureau on Anti-Corruption and Crime also shared her experiences with Kazakhstani colleagues.
