OSCE Programme Office promotes organic agriculture in Kazakhstan
The last in a series of three OSCE-supported regional roundtable discussions on promoting green technologies with a focus on organic agriculture concluded on 15 November 2016 in Kokshetau, Kazakhstan.
The event was co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Coalition for Green Economy and G-Global Development for some 50 representatives of the Akmola Region’s Agricultural Department, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken, the Agricultural Financial Support Fund as well as local farmers and representatives of the agribusiness community.
The participants debated the challenges associated with the production of organic produce and application of modern environmentally-friendly technologies in effective horticulture. An expert from the Russian Federation discussed the system of voluntary certification for organic production and the application of renewable energy sources at agricultural facilities.
The Coalition presented the OSCE-supported green technologies register incorporating the most up-to-date list of manufacturers in Kazakhstan employing energy-saving and environmentally-friendly technologies. The register will be placed on Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture Website and available for general public.
The event is part of the Office’s long-standing efforts to promote green growth and sustainable development principles in Kazakhstan.
