Use of contraband detectors in focus at OSCE training seminar for border security officers in Kazakhstan
A three-day training seminar on the use of density metres and microscopic cameras for inspecting vehicles entering Kazakhstan began on 8 December 2014 in Kordai, close to the Kyrgyzstan border.
The event was co-organized by the OSCE Centre in Astana in co-operation with the Border Service of the Committee for National Security of Kazakhstan for some 20 border service officers who will learn about how to use contraband detector systems that can identify and search hidden compartments in vehicles. An expert from the United States will share his knowledge and experience on using the devices to identify possible means to smuggle illegal goods across borders.
The training course is within the OSCE’s concept of countering transnational organized crime in the region and aims to provide border officers with the knowledge and techniques in effective search procedures for vehicles at border checkpoints.
The seminar is part of the OSCE Centre in Astana’s efforts to support integrated border security management.
