OSCE Centre in Ashgabad organizes training course for businesswomen
ASHGABAD 23 November 2004
ASHGABAD, 23 November 2004 - Experts from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom will share their experience and conduct practical training exploring the special needs of women in business at a two-day course that started Monday in the Turkmen capital.
Organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabad in co-operation with the Government of Turkmenistan and the Women's Union of Turkmenistan, the course is entitled "Women in business; possibilities and prospects".
Despite adequate legislation, women are often reluctantly accepted as part of the workforce.
"Whatever women do, they must do it twice as well as men," said Jacqueline Newbury, Managing Director of Newbury Financial Consulting Ltd.
The event brought together twenty-five participants from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the State Tax Service, the National Statistics Service, the Mejlis (Parliament) and the Women's Union of Turkmenistan as well as several businesswomen.
It marks the start of the Centre's activities to support and encourage entrepreneurship among women, an issue which is high on the priority list of the Turkmen government.
A follow-up event for womenentrepreneurs in Turkmenistan is envisaged for 2005.
