Series of OSCE border management training events ends in Turkmenistan today
ASHGABAT, 31 May 2013 – A series of five-day training courses for border officials and law enforcement officers on integrated border management techniques, organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, ended with a final event in northern Turkmenistan today.
Some sixty border management, customs, transportation police and national security officials participated in the courses, which focused on effective border management mechanisms and helped were designed to increase the participants’ capacities to conduct relevant border protection and security operations. The courses were held in Ashgabat, Mary, Turkmenabat and Dashoguz.
“Effective and modern border management techniques is an important element of the OSCE Border Security and Management Concept”, said Ambassador Ivo Petrov, Head of the OSCE Centre. “These classes represent another step forward in the implementation of this Concept in Turkmenistan”.
The training events were moderated by two international experts, who presented effective international border management practices, as well as advanced screening techniques, methods of patrolling of land borders and deployment mechanisms for special response units to frontier areas. The participants also learned about the ISO-28000 Security Management System, which is considered a global standard in supply chain security management for border enforcement professionals.
