OSCE Presence and German agency support new employment project in northern Albania
TIRANA 4 March 2005
TIRANA, 4 March 2005 - A project on fostering employment through competition, supported by the OSCE Presence in Albania and the German Association for Technical Co-operation's (GTZ) Economic Development Programme, will tomorrow be launched in the city of Shkodra.
With an initial budget of around 40,000 euro, it aims to encourage economic development in the north of Albania by creating increased employment opportunities through business competition. The main partners at the national level are the National Albanian Employment Services and the Ministry of Economy.
The project is part of efforts to stimulate development in remote areas of Albania by creating start-ups for unemployed youths and this way help them to avoid anti-social habits or criminal behaviour, such as trafficking.
Participants will be selected in two phases on the basis of competition and direct assistance given by GTZ business consultants, who will support the preparation of business plans and scrutinize financial and investment opportunities for each project.
The implementation of the project is supported by the Dibra Vision Programme, local government structures in Shkodra, Kukes and the Dibra area, local chambers of commerce/industry and regional development agencies.
Media representatives are invited to attend the launching of the project at 10.00 on Saturday, 5 March, at the Colosseum Hotel in Shkodra.
