OSCE Presence commends mature conduct of demonstrations in Tirana
TIRANA 21 February 2004
TIRANA, 21 February 2004 - The OSCE Presence in Albania commends the maturity and responsibility displayed by both the opposition and the government during today's demonstrations.
"It was evident that the protest rally was well-organised and that great effort was made to ensure that it remained peaceful in nature," the Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Osmo Lipponen said.
The true professionalism shown by the police and other security forces today not only protected the state institutions, but also protected the demonstrators and guaranteed their constitutional rights.
The Presence is pleased that no incident occurred and expresses the hope that similar responsible behaviour will also be shown in the future.
