OSCE Presence to observe re-run of local government elections in Albania

TIRANA, 5 December 2003 - The OSCE Presence in Albania will deploy observers for the re-run of the local government elections in two communes this Sunday.
The Albanian President set the date of the by-election for the commune of Vergo in the Delvina district as 7 December. The Albanian Central Election Commission also decided on a partial re-run of the elections in the commune of Gruemirë in the Malesia e Madhe district on the same day. Thus, election day will include a total of 10 polling stations in both communes.
Following the closure of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) on 24 October, it was agreed that the re-run elections would be covered by the OSCE Presence.
