Outgoing OSCE Head in Tirana holds last meeting with Friends of Albania Group

TIRANA, 24 July 2002 - In his capacity as Chairman of the local Friends of Albania Group, Ambassador Geert-Hinrich Ahrens, Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, called together a session of the Group yesterday in Tirana's German Embassy to discuss issues of common interest before his departure from Albania.
The members of the Group praised Ambassador Ahrens for the outstanding leadership he has shown during his tenure as Head of the OSCE Presence for the past three years. They noted, in particular, the important contributions he has made in bringing about stronger co-operation between the international community and Albania.
The Friends of Albania Group is a joint initiative of the OSCE and the European Union. It includes 38 countries and international organizations that meet regularly to discuss a common approach to support Albania's further democratization and economic development, with a view to its eventual inclusion in Euro-Atlantic structures.
