OSCE Presence in Albania to open a field station in Berat

TIRANA, 7 July 2000 - On 14 July 2000 the Head of Presence, Ambassador Geert-Hinrich Ahrens, will officially inaugurate a new OSCE Field Station (FS) in the Southern Albanian city of Berat. This will bring the number of OSCE regional facilities to a total of ten, strengthening the Organization's impact and effectiveness in the field.
The new station will cover the three districts of the Prefecture, Berat proper, Kuçova and Skrapar and will be manned by two international officers and two local staff. Head of the Berat FS will be Mr. Andrei Kandybko, a Russian officer who has served in Korça.
The inauguration ceremony will take place at 13:00 hrs. and will be attended by local authorities, political and religious leaders and other representatives of the community.
At 14:30 hrs. Ambassador Ahrens will hold a Press Conference. All the media representatives are cordially invited to participate.
