Youth
By working together with young people, youth civil society organizations, and international partners, the Mission implements activities that aim to ensure that youth perspective is observed by the institutions at all levels. It develops the capabilities and skills of youth in the areas of human rights, public leadership, volunteerism, confidence-building, critical thinking, media literacy, social cohesion and dialogue. Over the past years, the Mission has supported young people with human rights education training to provide them with the necessary skills to become human rights trainers in their own communities.
The Mission places emphasis on empowering youth through inter-ethnic dialogue and collaboration, and recognizing youth’s potential for promoting lasting peace and security. By bringing together young people from all backgrounds, it aims to promote human- and community-rights experience-sharing that the participants can take back to their respective communities.
Through a wide variety of internship programmes, the Mission offers relevant professional opportunities to young people. For example, it assigns young lawyers and interns of different community backgrounds to local and central level institutions to learn about the institutional practices in promoting and protecting property rights of vulnerable communities.
The Mission advocates for the establishment of additional local public safety committees, and the inclusion of more young people in these mechanisms. Particular focus in this regard is given to preventing violent extremism, youth-related crimes, trafficking in human beings, hate crime, drug abuse, cyber security, and domestic violence.
