OSCE supports a broadcast on improving community-police relations
On 28 September 2023, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (the Office) provided its support in the form of a talk show dedicated to the topic of “Law on public participation in ensuring public order”. The talk show was organized and broadcast on 28 September 2023 in Kulyab, (Khatlon region), with the involvement of Public Council members, territorial inspectors from the district police departments, cadets of the Kulyab Police College of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and experts.
Participants of the talk show discussed the issue of interaction territorial police inspectors’ interaction with community members as well as the inclusion of changes to their scope of work. Police inspectors shared their vision of this issue and the challenges that they are facing in their daily work. In addition, participants also noted that an increase in the number of local female police inspectors in law enforcement agencies will positively contribute to the prevention and effective fight against domestic violence and gender-based crimes. They further argued that with the advent of female inspectors, trust would increase and society, in particular women, would be more likely to seek their assistance.
The event was aimed at increasing awareness of the work of Public Councils, raising the visibility of territorial police inspectors, and enhancing the interaction of communities with police to ensure public order in Kulyab. The OSCE is committed to developing police-public partnerships through trust-building initiatives and dialogue.
