OSCE builds resilience for communities in disaster-prone areas of Tajikistan
On 5-6 Sept 2023, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe (Office) in partnership with the Red Crescent Society Tajikistan organized a training for residents of Sarichashma village in the disaster-prone Muminobod district.
The Office ensured the establishment of a Local Disaster Management Community (LDMC) comprising of 20 members. LDMC members attended theoretical sessions on disaster preparedness and mitigation and received the necessary equipment.
The first day of training focused on disaster preparedness, management and mitigation. On the second day of training, participants took part in scenario-based exercises involving schoolchildren, women and farmers. This training is one of three planned courses taking place in disaster-prone areas of Tajikistan including the Vose and Shamsiddin Shohin districts.
The Office anticipates that this training campaign will build resilience among communities in disaster-prone areas of Tajikistan. This initiative is in line with the strategic goals of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and Tajikistan’s Mid-term State Program for the Protection of population and Territories from Emergency Situations for 2023-2028.
