VIENNA 11 December 1997
VIENNA, 11 December 1997 - The Permanent Council of the OSCE today decided to extend the mandate of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina until 31 December 1998.
In taking this decision, the Permanent Council noted the commitment of the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to fully implement the obligations under Annex 3 of the General Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the request of the 1997 Bonn Peace Implementation Conference to the OSCE to extend the mandate of the Mission in order to supervise elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1998.
As a result of the decision, the Mission "shall maintain the necessary level of presence and involvement in the electoral process in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1998 as well as in the implementation of the results of the 1997 municipal elections".
The Mission will also continue activities within the fields of human rights, democratization, media development and regional stabilization in close co-ordination with other organizations active in these fields.
