OSCE election monitoring programme to be discussed in Warsaw

COPENHAGEN, 27 July 1998 - Danish Member of Parliament Ms. Helle Degn, who was elected ten days ago as the new President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, will meet in Warsaw 28 July with the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Mr. Bronislaw Geremek, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs. Among OSCE-matters to be discussed will be the OSCE election monitoring programme in general and the plans of the new President regarding election monitoring by OSCE parliamentarians in particular. During the past five years the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has sent nearly seven hundred parliamentarians from the 54 member countries to more than thirty elections throughout the OSCE area.
On the second day of her visit to Warsaw, Wednesday 29 July, Ms. Degn will pay a courtesy call to the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), another OSCE institution, located in Warsaw.
