ODIHR team assesses opportunities for democracy and human rights assistance in Kyrgyzstan
A team of experts from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) arrived in Kyrgyzstan on 27 March for a five-day visit to explore possibilities for assisting the authorities and civil society with democratic reform.
The team will meet representatives of the three branches of government, civil society and the international community. Some of the experts will also travel to Osh to meet with local government and regional representatives. Topics for discussion include democratic governance, legislative and judicial reform, human rights and anti-terrorism.
ODIHR observed the October 2010 parliamentary elections and presented recommendations for electoral reform during a visit in late February this year.
The OSCE Centre in Bishkek and its Osh Field Office will provide support to the ODIHR team throughout their visit.
