OSCE rejects criticism from political party in Belarus
MINSK 28 August 2000
MINSK, 26 August 2000 - The Conservative-Christian Party BPF continues its public campaign against the work of the OSCE Advisory and Monitoring Group in Belarus. On August 25, 2000, a delegation of that party delivered a statement to the Head of the OSCE Group repeating earlier attacks on me international organization and its activities in Belarus.
In its statement the party - led by Z. Paznyak - accuses the OSCE of "contributing to Russia's occupation policy" in Belarus and of "preparing and campaigning for the dictator's pseudo elections". The statement also demands that the activities of the OSCE Group in Belarus be stopped and that its Head be replaced.
The Advisory and Monitoring Group has been the target of unfounded and unqualified attacks by the political party in question on several previous occasions.
In conducting such a defamation campaign the Conservative Christian Party disqualifies itself as an interlocutor that can be taken seriously on the political stage and in the international arena.
The charges advanced by the party against OSCE in general, and against the Advisory and Monitoring Group in particular, lack any substance. Therefore, the Conservative Christian Party will fail to achieve its goal - to undermine the national and international standing of the Advisory and Monitoring Group in Belarus.
