Registration of a Kosovo Albanian party open for review, OSCE Mission says
PRISTINA 17 June 2004
PRISTINA, 17 June 2004 - The Democratic Alternative of Kosovo (ADK) has today completed registration requirements with the Political Party Registration Office of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo.
A final decision on registration will be given following a 14-day period in which the public is invited to review the registration documents.
ADK was established as a political party on 17 May 2004 by Edita Tahiri. The programme of the party states that "Kosovo is above all and prosperity and peace are essential for a decent life of its citizens."
The OSCE Political Party Registration Office has been given the responsibility of registering political parties under UNMIK Regulation 2004/11"On the registration and operation of political parties in Kosovo".
Once all registration materials have been submitted - including the party's programme, statute, and logo - they are made available to the public for review and comments.
According to the Regulation, "Any person may object to an application on one or more of the grounds set out in section 4 by submitting such objections in writing, together with any information or material substantiating the objections, to the Office within fourteen (14) days of the publication of the application."
It should be noted that achieving registration does not result in the automatic participation in the 2004 Assembly Election. To ensure a place on the ballot paper, all political entities must be certified.
Promoting transparency in the political party registration process is part of OSCE's continuing commitment in supporting the development of democratic institutions in Kosovo.
The Political Party Registration Office is located in the OSCE Mission HQ in Pristina.
Anyone wishing to view the documents can come to the Office on weekdays between 10.00 and 12.00 from 17 to 30 June.
For further information, please contact Ms. Ardiana Gashi or Ms. Drita Gjeli, Political Party Registration Office, +381 (0)38 500 162 ext 423 or 452.
